How to get motivated to earn extra income
If you are serious about earning extra income either via a home business idea, blogging, making money from your home or any other legal way then the following tips should help motivate you.
- Set a time period each day when you know you will not be disturbed.
- Set your alarm for 2 hours in advance and that is the time you spend each day on your business plan and research
- Turn off the TV
- If you know you will be distracted then do your planning in another room away from all distractions
- Consider going to the library (most libraries have PCs) and book in on their system a period of time each day in advance. That way you will have to turn up!
- If you like being around people then you could visit a local coffee shop and work there (after you have purchased a drink!)
- Tell everyone you are working on a new income stream and make yourself accountable to someone. That way you will reach your goals quicker
- Write a detailed plan of action – what gets written always gets done
How to stay focused
Starting a new business venture or money income stream can seem daunting and at times you may think ‘what I have done’ or all the effort I am putting it is getting me nowhere. It can be daunting and distracting to consider the multitude of tasks that require your attention. But never give up. Once you know what you are trying to achieve and understand what is happening in your business, you can stay focused easily.
Look at the progress you are making.
The hardest thing about growing any new income stream is the time it takes to do things properly. Although achieving success requires various elements, willpower and determination consistently rank as the most essential. If you are going to make any impactful change, you have to commit to it on a regular basis.
You may think that things are moving slowly. However we are all impatient at times. Stop thinking of all the things that are going wrong and look at the things you are doing right. Divide your project into a timeline with milestones and set aside time each day to meet those expectations.
Remember it is a marathon not a sprint
You may feel that you have been really busy setting everything up and you could get exhausted fairly quickly. Perhaps you are putting in long hours to make your new money income stream a success. Take a break when working on something if you feel your energy fading because you need to refocus and not get burned out as that will not help you grow your business.
You need to remember that you cannot do everything in one day as that would be impossible. Instead make sure you focus on the most important tasks you need to do and keep to a schedule. When anyone focused on sprints or fast fixes we only will get motivated for a short period of time. However, if you focus on the long term marathon you will stay focused for the longer term.
Create a feature Board
Develop a vision board, a mental visualization, or any method that continuously reminds you of your goals. The ‘why’ behind the goal is crucial as it will serve as a motivator. One way of staying motivated is to create a feature board of what you want to achieve in 5 years’ time.
You can get a good board from a local stationary store. Place the board in your working area on the wall. Add things you wish to achieve in the next 5 years. This could be image of a brand new home, a new car, a mock-up of an award for best business start-up etc. By continuing to be focused on this board will make you more motivated.
What is your vision for your money income stream?
Do you have a vision of how you want your new money venture to grow? A vision is a vivid mental image of what you want your business/new income stream to be at some point in the future based on your goals and aspirations. Having a vision will give your business/new income stream a clear focus and can stop you heading in the wrong direction.
Progressing significantly without a clear objective is unlikely to yield favorable outcomes. If there is no vision you cannot make any decisions about your new venture. This has a knock on effect because no decisions means you cannot stay motivated as you do not have any priorities for your business. You could burn out.
Ask yourself the following questions
- Why are you doing this?
- Who are your clients?
- Where will you find them?
- What are your goals for the business?
A study on accountability was completed by The American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) and the following statistics were….
- You have a 65% of completing a goal if you commit to someone
- But this increases to 95% if you have to check in with someone on a regular basis.
